Getting to Know Santa Fe

Santa Fe is a rural, unincorporated community in Maury County, northwest of Columbia. A post office was established here in 1849, and the community has kept much of its small-town, agricultural character, with farmland and rolling hills.

Santa Fe is also home for my family. Our homestead, FiddleTree Farm, is here, and it’s where the FiddleTree name comes from. Santa Fe Unit School, part of Maury County Public Schools, serves students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

Property in the Santa Fe area tends to include rural homes, farms, acreage and land suited to building or homesteading. For buyers who want space and a slower pace while staying within reach of Columbia, Spring Hill and Franklin, Santa Fe can be a good fit.

Practical Considerations

  • Santa Fe has no city government. Zoning, permits and building regulations come through Maury County, so understanding county requirements is part of evaluating a property.
  • Utilities vary from property to property. Some homes and parcels rely on wells or septic systems rather than public water and sewer. Soil conditions, water availability and utility access are worth confirming early.
  • Access and terrain matter. Road frontage, driveway placement, slope and site preparation can all influence what a piece of land is suited for and what it may cost to build.
  • Internet and cell service can vary in rural areas and are worth checking for the specific property.
