Getting to Know Spring Hill

Spring Hill sits about 30 miles south of Nashville and is unusual in one important way: the city lies in two counties, with Williamson County to the north and Maury County to the south.

Spring Hill grew from a small town into a much larger city after General Motors announced its plant there in 1985. Today the plant operates as GM’s Spring Hill Manufacturing, and Saturn Parkway connects the area to Interstate 65. The city’s history goes back much further. The Battle of Spring Hill was fought on November 29, 1864, the day before the Battle of Franklin. Rippavilla, an 1850s home used as a headquarters by both armies, now belongs to the city and is preserved along with about 98 acres of park space.

Much of Spring Hill’s housing consists of newer neighborhoods built over the past few decades, with a range of home sizes and styles. Some subdivisions are still growing, and properties on the outskirts can offer more space.

Practical Considerations

  • Which county a home is in matters. The county line affects school assignment: homes on the Williamson County side are served by Williamson County Schools, and homes on the Maury County side by Maury County Public Schools.
  • Property taxes differ by county. The city’s portion of the property tax is the same on both sides, but the county portion is different. I’ll help you confirm the current rates for any home you’re considering.
  • Growth and traffic patterns are worth understanding, including planned development nearby and your likely commute routes.
  • Homeowners association rules are common in Spring Hill’s newer neighborhoods and should be reviewed early.

How I Can Help

In Spring Hill, two homes a few streets apart can come with different schools, different tax rates and different county services. I’ll help you sort out those details, compare neighborhoods on both sides of the county line, and understand what you’re buying before you commit.
